Ernest Rombout

Ernest Rombout was born in 1959 in The Netherlands. After having studied as a guest student at The Royal Conservatory in The Hague for one year, he was admitted to the class of professor Heinz Holliger in Freiburg, Germany, in October 1977.

In July 1981 he passed his final examinations "Cum Laude", which consequently allowed him to continue studying for the seldom awarded Soloist´s Diploma. This he did after having gained ample soloistic experience in The Netherlands, West Germany and France. In July 1984 he was awarded the Soloist's Diploma "Cum Laude". In 1985 he had several additional lessons with Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Maurice Bourgue.

In 1979 Ernest Rombout won The International Competition for Woodwinds in Ancona, Italy.

In March 1983 he made his European debut as soloist in the "Concertgebouw" in Amsterdam, with the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, playing the Oboe Concerto by Richard Strauss.

In September 1985 Rombout was invited to become professor of Oboe at the Conservatoire in Utrecht.

Since 1981 Ernest Rombout has embarked upon a solo career. Resulting in participation in festivals such as the "Biennale" in Venice, the Ludwigsburger Festival, the Donaueschinger Musiktage, and "The Takefu International Music Festival" in Japan.

He has made numerous radio, television and CD recordings in The Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal and Greece. Furthermore he has made several tours in Germany and in April 1990 his first tour in the U.S.A. with the Oboe Concerto by W.A. Mozart.

Besides the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Rombout has played with the Prague Chamber Orchestra, the Vienna String Soloists, the "Residentie" Orchestra of The Hague, Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, and others.
